Neighborhood Soccer Club

Whether it is ingenuity or loving hearts for the community, our transitional boys constantly amaze me and this week was no different!

We began to notice more and more local kids coming to the north end of our property where we have begun to clear the land for future construction.  In Haiti, any space with a ball or an object to kick is well suited for soccer, but apparently we had created a new neighborhood arena!

With the newfound space Romy, one of our transitional boys, started a soccer club for the younger kids in the neighborhood.  This club isn’t just a few kids for a quick pick up game!  Romy and the other coaches have created a coaching hierarchy, practice schedules, found jerseys, cleats and use their own money to purchase water for the little ones.  They have connected with other local groups to create a small league and are now holding weekly matches.  Romy and I have been talking about how he can start including a Bible study or character lessons into their events.  It is so encouraging to know that Romy and his friends took on this leadership role with no prompting by an adult, Haitian or American. 

Its actions like this that offer us great encouragement, not only for our kids, but also for Haiti! 

Our continued prayer is that the young people of Haiti will continue to rise up, find value in themselves and those around them and take action to be the change in this amazing place!
